7.62×51 ammo
The 7.62×51mm NATO is a rimless bottlenecked rifle ammunition cartridge developed in the 1950s as a standard for small arms among NATO countries.
Although not identical, the 7.62×51mm NATO and the commercial .308 Winchester cartridges are similar enough that they can be loaded into rifles chambered for the other round, but the Winchester .308 cartridges are typically loaded to higher pressures than 7.62×51mm NATO cartridges for use in long-distance hunting of big-game animals. Even though SAAMI does not consider it unsafe to fire the commercial round in weapons chambered for the NATO round, there is significant discussion about compatible chamber and muzzle pressures between the two cartridges based on powder loads and wall thicknesses on the military vs. commercial rounds.
7.62×51 bulk ammo
.308 Winchester ammunition, frequently called .308 ammo or 7.62×51 ammunition, is an incredibly popular choice among hunters and rifle shooters. Developed as an improvement for M1 Garand shooters, 308 rounds are known for their accuracy and power. While technically not identical, shooters with rifles chambered for .308 are safe to fire 7.62×51 rounds in their firearm.
